Chaos in Oworonshoki as Residents Allege Thugs Set Properties on Fire
Residents of the Precious Seed area in Oworonshoki, Lagos State, have raised alarm over the alleged destruction and burning of properties during an ongoing demolition exercise in the community.
According to residents and eyewitnesses, individuals described as thugs allegedly linked to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Babatunde Saliu of Oworonshoki, were seen setting fire to properties belonging to affected residents on the morning of June 9, 2026.
Witnesses specifically alleged that the group was led by an individual popularly known as “Apesin,” who was reportedly identified by a yellow top worn during the operation.
Residents said the demolition exercise began on June 8, 2026, and has continued into Tuesday, resulting in the displacement of several families and the destruction of personal belongings.
Some affected residents expressed concern over the development, claiming that properties were damaged beyond the scope of the demolition exercise. They called on relevant government authorities and security agencies to urgently intervene and investigate the allegations.
As of the time of filing this report, the palace of Oba Babatunde Saliu had not publicly responded to the allegations, while authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The affected residents urged the government to take immediate steps to prevent further destruction of property and ensure the safety of members of the community.
