Trump Declares Iran Deal Complete, Orders Reopening of Strait of Hormuz
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran has been finalized, declaring that the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened and the U.S. naval blockade lifted. The announcement appears to confirm an earlier statement in which Trump expressed confidence that a major regional agreement would bring peace, security, and the resumption of oil exports.
In a new statement shared on social media, Trump wrote: “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!” He added that he had authorized the toll-free reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate removal of the United States naval blockade, urging global shipping to resume operations.
The latest announcement follows Trump’s earlier remarks in which he predicted that a forthcoming agreement would restore peace to the region and allow oil to flow freely again through the strategic waterway after mine-clearing operations. At the time, he said regional leaders had found an opportunity to achieve “real peace” and suggested that previous efforts to reach an understanding with Iran had failed.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, handling a significant share of global energy shipments. Its reopening is expected to ease concerns about oil supply disruptions and could have major implications for global energy markets.
According to reports, the agreement includes the termination of military operations between the parties, with a formal signing ceremony expected to take place in Switzerland later this week.
