‘I Used My Certificates to Light the Fire’ — Nigerian Lady Reacts to Remi Tinubu’s Roasted Corn Business Advice
A Nigerian woman has stirred reactions on social media after responding to recent remarks by First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who encouraged Nigerians to embrace small-scale businesses such as selling roasted corn, kulikuli, and akara.
In a post shared on X, the woman said she had taken the First Lady’s advice by starting a roasted corn business, adding sarcastically that she used her academic certificates to light the fire.
“Dear @SenRemiTinubu, I have started roasted agbado business as instructed by you. I used my certificates to light up the fire,” she wrote.
She went on to call on the government to improve security, urging the First Lady to ensure that bandits do not attack her on her way to the farm.
The woman also appealed for lower transportation costs, saying high fares could force her out of business.
“Do well to ensure price of transportation doesn’t run me out of business,” she added.
Referring to the vehicles recently distributed to governors’ wives, she concluded her message by asking the First Lady and the beneficiaries to patronise her business.
“Lastly, while you and governors’ wives cruise in the exotic cars you shared, please stop by and buy my corn.”
The post has since generated widespread reactions online, with many users interpreting it as a satirical commentary on Nigeria’s economic hardship and the challenges facing graduates and small business owners.
