Former Peter Obi Spokesperson Threatens to Reveal Information Amid Legal Dispute

Former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has reacted to reports of a legal demand allegedly seeking N5 billion in damages over claims considered defamatory against former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

In a statement shared on social media, Okonkwo claimed that a letter from Peter Obi and his lawyers was circulating online and alleged that he was being asked to pay N5 billion.

Kenneth Okonkwo dismissed the reported demand, describing it as an attempt at extortion. He further suggested that if Obi needed financial assistance for political activities, he should ask privately rather than pursue legal action.

The former spokesperson stated that he had not yet read the letter but warned that any legal action could lead to the disclosure of information he allegedly acquired while serving as Peter Obi's spokesperson during the 2023 presidential campaign.

According to Okonkwo, he had refrained from sharing confidential information obtained during his time in that role. However, he suggested that the situation could change if the matter proceeds to court.

Kenneth Okonkwo also challenged Peter Obi and his legal team to pursue the matter through the courts, insisting that he was prepared to respond to any allegations against him.

The actor-turned-politician further cited claims made by an individual identified as Obunike Ohaegbu regarding his experience within the Labour Party, although those claims could not be independently verified.

As of the time of filing this report, Peter Obi and his legal representatives had not publicly responded to Okonkwo's latest comments. The authenticity and contents of the alleged legal demand could not be independently verified.

The development marks the latest chapter in the growing public disagreement between Kenneth Okonkwo and Peter Obi following their political association during the 2023 general election.
