Breaking: Troops Rescue Wife of Former Defence Spokesman From Bandits
Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, the wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, from bandit captivity.
The Defence Headquarters disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying Mrs Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband by bandits a few weeks ago.
According to the military, the rescue followed intensified search-and-rescue operations carried out by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in affected communities.
The statement said troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village during sustained offensive operations that mounted significant pressure on the armed group.
During the encounter, the bandits reportedly shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing as troops advanced on their location.
Following her recovery, she was immediately evacuated to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
The Defence Headquarters stated that Mrs Abubakar is responding to treatment and receiving the necessary medical attention.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria also assured that it remains committed to supporting her recovery and providing assistance to her family.
Military authorities further stated that troops will continue ongoing operations to track down those responsible for the abduction while intensifying efforts to eliminate banditry and terrorism in Katsina State and other parts of the country.
The statement was signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information.
